2023 : I want a younger person as vice, Obi Reveals Type of Running Mate

The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party and former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has spoken on his type of running mate ahead of the 2023 Presidential election.

Meanwhile, name of former Presidential aide, Doyin Okupe was submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as a ‘placeholder

The Labour Party had stated that Okupe’s name was submitted to INEC until a substantive vice presidential candidate of the party will be unveiled.

During an interview on Arise TV on Wednesday, Obi said he prefers a younger person as a vice-presidential candidate rather than an old politican.

The former governor disclosed that he wants a young politician of Northern extraction who has a measure of intellect, sound background, pedigree and education.

He added that he prefers a younger person who has something to offer to complement his ticket rather than recycling old hands who had been in the government before now.

This development comes hours after Okupe said that Senator Datti Baba Ahmed and others are being considered as Obi’s running mate.

According to the Director-General of Peter Obi Campaign Organization, the LP presidential candidate will announce his running mate himself.

He had said, “Senator Datti is being considered. Others are being considered too. These things will be decided this week [it’s going to be an announcement from Peter Obi] very very likely

I’m sure about Senator Datti being the running mate but I know that this matter will be concluded before Friday.

“Senator Datti is being considered along with other people whom we’ve engaged and talked with.

“The emphasis is this, we’re looking for a young vibrant politician of northern extraction with a measure of intellect, sound background, pedigree and education. That is what we’re looking at.”
