2023: US Under Secretary to Visit Nigeria, Others Ahead of General Election

The United States Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Victoria Nuland, will be visiting Nigeria between Thursday, June 16 to Friday, June 17, 2022, to discuss salient issues bordering on security, elections, and business with the Federal Government and representatives of the civil society.

Raye24reporters can confirm that Nuland’s visit to the continent, however, is not limited to Nigeria. The US Political Under-Secretary’s visit to the African continent began on Saturday, June 11, 2022, and would include visits to two other countries; Djibouti, and Mozambique.

Throughout the trip, the Under Secretary would highlight the important work the US was doing with African and international partners to shore up global food security and health systems.

In Djibouti, Nuland and an interagency met with government counterparts to advance US-Djibouti relations and the two countries’ close security cooperation.

According to the statement from the US Department of State, the Under Secretary and her team, while in Mozambique, will meet with government and civil society members to discuss the full range of bilateral and regional issues, including opportunities to advance stability and economic recovery in conflict-affected areas in support of her government’s new partnership under the US ‘Strategy to Prevent Conflict and Promote Stability.’

In Nigeria, however, Under Secretary Nuland and her team would meet with the government and civil society representatives to discuss issues of shared concern including regional security, free and fair elections, and business innovation.
