NYSC Debunks Story of Corps Member Assaulted by Police For Punishing a Student

The Management of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has debunked what it described as a malicious and misleading story with photograph in the media space claiming that Corps Member, Michael Uwakwe, was assaulted at his place of Primary Assignment-Nasara Standard Academy, Gusau, Zamfara State, by a policeman for punishing a student.

This was contained in a statement signed by Eddy Megwa fnipr, Director, Information and Public Relations, which reads in part: “To put the records straight, the fake story first hit the media space on March 8, 2017, in which the NYSC Management strongly condemned the damaging story in its entirety, because there was no report of such incident involving any of our Corps Member across the country.

“The claim by the writer of the story is nothing but a reckless assemblage of ill-intentioned, unguarded, and unprofessional reportage.

“The National Youth Service Corps as a responsible and youth-friendly government establishment places high priority on the welfare and security of its Corps Members in their places of primary assignment and host communities. This has been the tradition of the Scheme for the past fifty-one years of its existence.

“Members of the Fourth Estate of the Realm, especially online bloggers are by this notice enjoined to dissociate from yellow journalism especially against the NYSC, but uphold the tenets of objective reportage on the Scheme’s laudable achievements to national unity and integration.

“In addition to the above, the general public, especially parents, guardians, serving and Prospective Corps Members are advised to ignore the ill-conceived publication in its entirety,” it also added.
