Minna Residents Lament Increase in Armed Robbery, Calls For Improved Security

The residents of Niger state, has expressed worries over the rising tide of armed robbery in Minna, the State Capital and its environs and have called the State Governor Mohammed Umar Bago and security agencies to as a matter of urgency tackle the situation facing the city.

They however, called for drastic actions against the criminal elements perpetrating the crimes.

The residents decried persistent attacks by hoodlums on houses and shops in various parts of the town and its environs in where many victims are injured or killed.

According to them, during such robbery attacks many were dispossessed of their belongings which include cell phones, laptops, ipad, cash worth millions of naira among others on daily basis while noting the need for more surveillance and review of security architecture to address the menace.

It was gathered that a lot of the criminal activities in recent times were usually carried out in the middle of the night, especially during the rain to ensure smooth operation for the miscreants.

Some of the areas affected in the state capital and environs include Balikin Sale, Tunga, Kpakungu, Maitumbi, Bosso, Sauka Kahuta, Limawa, Dutsen Kura, Chanchaga among others.

A resident of Chanchaga area, Hassan Abdullahi lamenting the situation called on the state government and security agencies in the state rise to the challenge confronting Minna and it’s environs, adding, ” It is becoming more and more difficult for the people in my area Tungan-Goro to sleep with their two eyes closed due to the activities of these hoodlums”.

Another resident, Mallam Anfani Mahmoud of Tunga area, ” We are calling on the government to ensure adequate security is provided in the state capital to ensure security of lives and property of citizens. The perpetrators of such hideous crimes should be arrested and dealt with severely”

“Imagine the hardship the people are going through and some thieves will just buggle either your house or shop and carry away your property. It’s painful, the government should do something about this menace”.

However, when contacted over the development, the State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO , SP Wasiu Abiodun promised to get back with details from the various DPOs concerned as at the time of filing this report.
