In a significant move, President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of new Directors-General for the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Department of State Services (DSS).
Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed, a seasoned foreign service veteran, has been appointed as the new Director-General of the NIA. With a career spanning over two decades, Ambassador Mohammed has served in various roles, including as Director and head of the Nigerian mission to Libya. His extensive experience includes postings in North Korea, Pakistan, Sudan, and at the State House, Abuja. A 1990 graduate of Bayero University, Kano, Ambassador Mohammed brings a wealth of expertise to his new position.
Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi has been appointed as the new Director-General of the Department of State Services. While details of his background and experience are not immediately available, his appointment is seen as a strategic move to strengthen the agency’s leadership.
The appointments are seen as a significant shake-up in the country’s security apparatus, and observers are eagerly awaiting the impact of these new leadership changes.
Mr. Ajayi, who rose through the ranks to become Assistant Director-General, has served as State Director in Bauchi, Enugu, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Kogi. His appointment follows the resignation of the previous DSS chief.
President Tinubu charged the new security chiefs to reposition the agencies for better results, tackle security challenges through enhanced collaboration with sister agencies, and align with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
