A 26-years-old girl, Glory Johnbull, has been declared wanted by the elders of her kindred of Ogbe-Ohun Quarters in Owa-Oyibu, Ika North East Local Government Area over her refusal to undergo the compulsory circumcision before marriage.
This was contained in a letter dated Wednesday, 25th of January 2023, to the Ogbe-Ohun community police with the mandate to apprehend the fleeing Glory Johnbull before she goes against the tradition of their land that none of their daughters gets married without being circumcised.
The Fleeing Glory Johnbull, Ika Weekly gathered, escaped for dear life because many who undergo such circumcision at an adult age in the community with the hope of getting married had died since the survival rate is 50/50.
The letter, which was signed by the secretary of the Ogbe Ohun, Mr Obioma Odimegwu, gave the community Vigilante group a two-week ultimatum to produce Glory Johnbull for circumcision or remain unmarried in the community to serve the community deity.
The letter also stipulates a death sentence for any married uncircumcised female of Ogbe-Ohun, where the blood is used to cleanse the land for the abominable act.
Meanwhile, the Owa-Oyibu Police Public Relations Officer, DSP. Emmanuel Okolie, when contacted, said the people of Ogbe-Ohun have remained lawless people when it concerns their tradition while disclosing that many of their officers have died while intervening in the matter of their tradition and that nobody is ready to sacrifice his or her life again.
At the time of filing the report, the whereabouts of Glory Johnbull, an orphan, remains unknown.
