Prison Fraud: Reps Moves to Probe Aregbesola Days After Outburst With Tinubu

Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker of the House of Representatives, said the House has commenced a probe of the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola.

The Prisons Boss, Haliru Nababa have been accused of misappropriating about N165billion funds earmarked for the development of prisons in Nigeria.

The House, on Wednesday, resolved to probe the duo following a motion of urgent public importance moved by the Minority Leader of the House, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu.

He said: “The House is disturbed that despite this Act and increase in budgetary allocations to the Nigerian Correctional Service to drive its renewed mandate, the tempo and quality of the service have remained the same if not retrogression.

“The House is worried that the working conditions of staff and inmates’ welfare have deteriorated notwithstanding, the over N165 billion budget allocations to the service in the last two years.”

Following the motion, the Committee on Reformatory Institutions was tasked to probe the allegation and report back to the house in a weeks time.
