Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye, a lawmaker representing Ikole constituency 2 in the Ekiti State House of Assembly, has condemned the killing of one person and kidnapping of three others by suspected herders on Saturday in Ajoni Local Council Development Area of the State.
The lawmaker, said the killing of the man, Segun Ayebulu, an operative of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Abduction of three others was callous and wicked, adding that it should be resisted by all lovers of peace.
Suspected gun-wielding Fulani herders had killed the victim on Saturday and kidnapped three others along Okeako/Irele road, in Ajoni LCDA, under Ikole Local Government.
The lawmaker representing the area where the incident occurred, said the incessant kidnapping and killing of his constituents remained saddening and appalling and that he could no longer tolerate such.
He averred that time had come for the federal government to accede to the request of Nigerians to the creation of a state police to tackle all manner of senseless carnages being perpetrated by criminals at the grassroots level.
He added that time had come for the State to also consider the convocation of a “Security Summit” in Ikole Council area to fashion out ways through which criminals can be warded-off from the already beleaguered area.
“I condemn in totality, the killing of the victim, Segun Ayebulu and call on government to respond to this with the same measure the criminals were using in dealing with Nigerians.
“With these killings and abductions, time has come for the FG to allow the creation of a State Police to allow states to control their own security architectures in dealing with these criminals.
“We must also consider the option of Security Summit in Ikole LG, so that we can brainstorm on how to tackle the security challenges in the area.
“Pending the time all these will be done, there is a need for security beef up around the area while the police and other sister agencies must track down the perpetrators of these criminal tendencies”, he said.
