Some Nigerian students under the aegis of Students Obi-Datti Network (SON) have come out to declare their support for the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) for the 2023 general election, Peter Obi.
According to the group, their decision to support Obi for the 2023 polls was considered after they understudied the manifestos of other candidates as well as their track records.
Raye24reporters, reports that the coalition of students drawn from the former and current executives of students across various universities in the country vowed to work for Obi’s victory in 2023.
The students’ groups stated that it wants to queue behind Obi and the Labour Party for the realization of the yearnings of the citizenry.
The National Coordinator of the group, Kenneth Okeke, while speaking at the inauguration of its southeast zonal and state executives in Awka the Anambra state capital, said the group has put in place strategies to mobilise 10 million votes for Obi at the 2023 polls.
Okeke advanced that Obi’s capacity and competence to transform the country informed their decision to support him.
While reflecting on the group’s slogan, “Taking the Good News to Our Campuses,” he pointed out the need to change the narrative of the nation’s retrogressive trend over the years, insisting that the burden of its transformation should be a collective responsibility of all patriotic citizens.
“We have resolved to mobilize and create this movement with the mandate of galvanising 10 million votes only from our structure cut across geopolitical zones, state, local government, ward and polling unit levels.
“We are poised in deepening the conversation of domesticating the deployment and penetration of the network in the tertiary institutions through voter education, booth-to-booth mobilization, and awareness in all the polling units,” Okeke submitted.
The Labour Party candidate for the Anaocha 2 state constituency, Osita Ozalagba applauded the group and also appealed to them to sustain the struggle for good governance and work for the party’s victory to ensure accelerated economic development.
