The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, is set to meet with Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State before Yuletide celebration.
Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, who is Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum and the Director-General of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council, would also be at the meeting, Raye24reporters learnt
It is understood that the meeting scheduled for Benue State would address the lingering crisis rocking the opposition party and the face-off between Atiku and the G-5 governors.
According to Nigerian Tribune, the planned meeting was part of the outcome of the meeting last weekend in Makurdi between Ortom, who is the Chairman of the G-5 governors, and Tambuwal.
A source told the newspaper that the Sokoto governor was said to have advanced the idea that there is still hope for a resolution of the protracted crisis before the 2023 general elections.
The source, who craved anonymity, also confirmed that arrangements are in motion to receive the PDP flag bearer and Tambuwal in Makurdi before Christmas.
This development comes 24 hours after both Atiku and his running mate, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, stormed the Makurdi Airport on Monday on their way to Lafia, Nasarawa State, for the presidential rally.
Atiku, who had decided to fly to Benue because he could not secure a landing clearance in Nasarawa, was ignored by Ortom and Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State.
The short encounter also came barely 24 hours after Atiku said he met with Wike five times to resolve the lingering crisis within the party without any way forward
