A youth wing of the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) in Rivers State known as the PDP Salvation Movement had frowned at Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State over his comment on his erstwhile National Chairman of the party, Uche Secondus.
The group in a statement, signed by its National Chairman, Imam Lawal and Secretary, Umar Farouk, condemned Wike over his attack on Secondus.
Allegations against Governor Nyesom Wike over PDP crisis
In the statement, the PDP youths expressed satisfaction with the Atiku/Okowa ticket and expressed optimism that the party will win the 2023 election.
Lawal and Farouk further shaded Governor Wike over his failure to secure the PDP presidential ticket and vice presidential slot, citing it as the beginning of Wike’s “political self-destruction” through his daily verbal attacks on leaders of the party across the country.
According to the group, the governor has the right to express himself democratically but denigrating party members who refused to do his bidding is condemnable.
The statement reads in part; “He prepared and signed a fraudulent and obnoxious Executive Order 22 deliberately targeting the Atiku /Okowa ticket. It is aimed at denying them the opportunity to campaign in Rivers State.”
The youths maintained that Celestine Omehia, Lee Maeba, Austin Okpara, George Sekibo and Abiye Sekibo, who are in the camp of Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate in the state, have the right to pitch tents in Rivers.
They alleged that Wike’s recent executive orders are targeted at denying Atiku the opportunity to campaign in the state.
Udom Emmanuel, the Chairman of the PDP presidential campaign council and Governor of Akwa Ibom State has met with his counterpart in Benue, Samuel Ortom, an ally of Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers.
The two governors met behind a closed door in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital and Udom said the leadership of the party is open to dialogue with the aggrieved governors.
Emmanuel described the governors as lost sheep that must be brought back to the folds they belonged to.
