PDP Campaign Council Reveals When Rivers Presidential Rally Will Hold

The Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Council (PDP PCC) has said its rally in Rivers, which was canceled, will hold when it is safe to mobilize supporters.

Raye24reporters reported that the PDP PCC canceled the planned campaign rally on Monday which was scheduled to hold on Tuesday.

In a statement on Monday, a member of the PDP campaign council in Rivers, Lee Maeba, said the cancellation of the rally was due to attacks on the members of the team in the state.

But the Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike, said the campaign council does not have the political clout to mobilize party supporters to the venue of the rally.

Briefing journalists in Sokoto on Tuesday, a member of the PDP campaign council, Yusuf Dingyadi, said the decision was taken following the recommendation of the Rivers local organising committee.

Dingyadi said the party prioritized public safety over campaign rallies, adding that the lives of the supporters of the party are more important than anything else.

He, however, said the party’s standard-bearer, Atiku Abubakar, and other party chieftains may be safe due to the protection by “armed security” officers if the campaign had been held.

He said: “We value our supporters’ lives and their safety more than a campaign show.

“Therefore, the PCC agreed with the recommendation of the state’s local organising committee to postpone the rally.
