A tragic road accident has claimed the lives of at least ten family members reportedly returning to their home from a wedding event in Kano State.
Raye24reporters learnt that the auto crash happened around 5 pm on the Kaduna-Kachia highway last Sunday.
A source quoted by Daily Trust disclosed that the victims’ vehicle had a head-on collision with a lorry conveying firewood.
A resident of Kachia, Isiyaku Musa Kachia, identified the victims and told reporters that the victims were Kano indigenes who resided in Kachia town.
“I knew most of them; they went to their home town in Kano for a wedding and on their way back to Kachia town, the saloon Gulf they were travelling in collided with a lorry conveying firewood and the 10 of them in the car died on the spot,” Musa told journalists.
He confirmed that their remains had all been buried according to Islamic rites in Kachia.
Confirming the accident, the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) Sector Commander of Kaduna, Zubairu Mato, attributed the incident to dangerous overtaking, which led to the driver losing control.
Mato also noted that the Gulf car was overloaded at the time of the accident and that eight men and two boys were among the victims.
