The Federal High Court sitting in Jalingo, Taraba state, has affirmed Senator Emmanuel Bwacha as a candidate in the March 18 governorship election in the state.
It would be recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) refused to recognize Senator Emmanuel Bwacha as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the forthcoming governorship election.
Initially, the electoral body argued that the Senator was not duly elected as a governorship candidate during the party’s primary election.
When the matter got to court, the APC won but the matter dragged until it got to the Supreme court level. At the Supreme court, the court ordered APC to conduct a fresh primary which the party did.
Fortunately, Senator Emmanuel Bwacha emerged as the winner of the primary again. Yet, there were fears that INEC intend to delist the senator from its portal or ballot papers.
Hence, APC had to drag INEC to court again to prevent the electoral body from delisting the governorship candidate.
In his judgment on Thursday, Judge Bala Usman of the Federal High Court in Jalingo upheld Bwacha’s candidacy after ruling on the APC’s plea that INEC refrains from removing its candidate from its portal or ballot paper before the governorship election on March 18.
