EXCLUSIVE: Atiku Seeks Alliance With Peter Obi

Osita Chidoka, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has revealed his party’s plan to form an alliance with the Labour Party.

The former Aviation Minister disclosed this in a tweet, saying he met with the Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi on Wednesday evening to deepen their engagement, as the PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar had requested.

“At 8 am today I met with AA, @Atiku and he asked that we deepen our engagement with LP. At 6pm I met with my brother @PeterObi at his campaign office where he has been since 8am and still plan to be till 10pm Interesting how the erstwhile candidates are out and about,” he tweeted.

This comes barely two months after Chidoka described Peter Obi as a disruptor in Nigerian politics, and one with a lack of national appeal.

This purported alliance between the opposition parties has generated mixed reactions from Nigerians, particularly on social media.

According to a Twitter user, Emamode Fidelis Okusaga, who claimed to be a strong supporter of Peter Obi, the planned alliance between the two parties will help Nigeria to move forward.

“We were in PDP with @PeterObi before we left with him to LP. We shall queue behind PO and also thanks to @atiku, he must have had a rethink and see how the country can move forward through alignment with LP,” he tweeted.

“The only reason Atiku asked you to deepen engagement with LP is what the last election revealed in the Southeast despite the attempts at rigging. The once stronghold of the PDP is now that of LP. If only he had supported a Southeast Presidential candidate. Think about it,” another user, Serene XY also commented.

But according to Amos Ajewole, the alliance requested by the PDP is no longer necessary since they failed to do so before the election.

He said, “Egbon, we had a long Twitter Space session with you at the beginning of this election race. I tried to see the ramifications behind your backing of @atiku. We wouldn’t be here today if you had convinced your boss to back @PeterObi. To me now, there is nothing to deepen. Face your tribunal path and we go with ours. We come this far without you but by God and the fervent desires of the Obidient youths of this country and the masses.”
