The Coalition of Civil Society Groups for Peace, Security, Good Governance, Equity and Justice, following the remarkable outing of the Labour Party (LP) in the just concluded general elections, has appealed to the security agencies to leave the Labour Party alone in the interest of Nigeria’s democracy and the rule of law.
In a press statement made available to Raye24reporters in Abuja, signed by the national coordinator Comrade James Okoronkwo, stated that ever since the Labour Party made an impressive performance in the 2023 general election by winning 35 seats in the national assembly, 12 states in the presidential and the governorship of Abia state, the Department of State Services (DSS) has occupied the Labour Party National Headquarters in Abuja, thereby denying the Barr. Julius Abure – led leadership access of the facility ostensibly to mar its preparation for the fourth coming Imo State governorship election.
The group, however, decried the ongoing harassment and intimidation of the national chairman of the Labour Party, Barr. Julius Abure on trumped charges “saying that he is a victim of political intimidation, abuse of power by the powers that be in the All Progressive Congress (APC) to weaken the Labour Party so that they cannot argue its case at the ongoing 2023 Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal.
Concluding, the group passed a vote of confidence on the national chairman of the Labour Party, Comrade Julius Abure for building “a structure-less political party in 6 months” to a formidable opposition party in Nigeria.
The Coalition of Civil Society Groups for Peace, Security, Good Governance, Equity and Justice maintained that only the Labour Party has the moral compass, competence, manifesto and goodwill to pull Nigeria from the doldrums.
