SON Unveils National Winners to Participate in The Continental Essay Competition 2023

    The Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has unveiled the National Winners of the 10th edition of the African Organization for Standardization’s (ARSO) annual competition.

    In a statement from the office of the Director General/Chief Executive Officer, Standard Organisation of Nigeria, Mallam Farouk Salim, it named the winners as Chisom Bartholomew of the University of Ibadan, who emerged as the overall winner, Segun Samson of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State who came second and David Abosede Iyiola of the University of Ibadan, Oyo State who came third with 74.3%. Two other essays from Kenneth Chukwuemeka Egwu who scored 72.9% and Loretta Uchechukwu Anyikwa with 72.5% completed the five entries to be presented by Nigeria to the ARSO Competition.

    According to the statement, the theme of this year’s edition of the competition is “Standardisation In Promoting The Growth of Micro, Small and Medium sized, Sustainable, Inclusive and Diversified Industrial and Economic Development “.

    Mallam Salim congratulated the National Winners of the Essay competition and noted that some of the five entries from Nigeria would be among the final winners of this year’s edition of the competition.

    He enjoined all undergraduates in Tertiary institutions in Nigeria to participate in the competition to further spread the gospel of Standardisation and deepen the potential for value addition to Lives, Economy, and the Environment.

    The SON’s chief executive expressed appreciation to the inter-ministerial Screening Committee responsible for the collation, assessment, and scoring of the essays.

    The statement said forty-Seven essays were received from Government institutions of which Thirty-Six met the assessment requirements. Members of the inter-ministerial Screening Committee according to the Director, Public Relations, Mrs. Foluso Bolaji, include representatives of Ministries of Education, Health, Women Affairs and Social Development as well as Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development.

    Others are, the National Universities Commission, the Nigerian Education Development Council, the National Human Rights Commission, Nigerian Police, and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Offences Commission, with Standard Organisation of Nigeria providing the Secretariat and coordination.
