The Governor of Jigawa state Malam Umar Namadi, said the state government will produce and distribute 5000 unit of improved clean cook economy stoves to residents across the 27 local government areas in the state
According to Namadi, his administration will power rural communities with solar energy in which one in each of the senetorial district will benefitiaries .
He made this known at the lunching and distribution of Aquatic weeds working materials to fifteen community based organization across 13 local government areas held at Ringim local Govt today.
In his words: “We cannot address and improve the free flow of farming ,and add value chain through the establishment of agro allied industries without addressing the menace of flooding” he stated.
“As we all know that the frequent flooding is overwhelming our economic development and job recreation”.
He therefore urged the rural community members to support the state governmentt in removing any aquatic invasive weeds that can cause blockage in the rivers to enable the free flow of rivers in order to have a flood free environment.
He explained that his administration have addressed some environmental challenges of desertification and gully erosion and also embark on flood control with mechanical clearance of invasive Tyler grass along old Hadejia and Burum Gana channel downstream.
Namadi, Added that the state government is currently constructing drainages to reclaimed eroded flooded areas in the affected villages and town in the 27 local government areas of the state.
In the area of flood mitigation, he noted that his administration has spent million of naira on river embankment along Hadejia River and other tributaries within the state to safe guard the people in these communities and their farm lands .
Explained that his administration will focus on solar, wind and BIO mass as an alternative source of energy as well as improve clean cook stove to reduce the use of fire wood by rural communities.
Adding that his administration will also enhance the Tsangaya schools by providing solar flood lighting system in some selected Tsangaya schools in the state.
He however, assured that his administration will be working tirelessly to address desert encroachment in partnering with acreasal to create great break wall and Federal ministry of Enviroment in establishing shelter belt .
Adding that Arrangment has been made to address the problems of river system to enhance free flow of downstream by distributing working materials to committed communities based development association along the riverine communities across the 13 local govt areas in the state .
He further explained that effort are ongoing to encourage other organization to join in the fight against invasive weeds typher grass and other Enviromental Hazzard
Also the commissioner of Agriculture Alh Nura Ibrahim Dandoka in his speech, said the Jigawa state government has empower the 15 communities with working tools across the 13 local government with a view to address the problems of water ways in order to improve free flow of water in all the water ways in the state .
