The Supreme Court has affirmed the election of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the duely elected Governor of Lagos State against the appeal of the Labour Party candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour.
The Apex Court says Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party governorship candidate’s appeal challenging the Appeal Court decision affirming Sanwo-Olu and his deputy lacks merit, and is therefore dismissed on that ground.
In a unanimous decision, the Apex Court panel stresses that acquisition of US citizenship doesn’t disqualify a person seeking to run for governor.
It says being a citizen of Nigeria by birth makes one qualified to run.
Hence, the quest by the Labour Party to void the victory of the APC in the Governorship Election in Lagos State fails.
