The Government of Adamawa State, has shared fresh update on the implementation of the ₦70,000 minimum monthly wage recently legislated and signed into law at the federal level.
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, during a meeting with leaders of the organised labour, promised that workers will start receiving their new minimum wage from the end of August while local government workers will start benefiting from it next month.
The state Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Emmanuel Fashe explained to newsmen after the closed-door meeting with the Governor that the template to be used is the consequential adjustment table used in 2019 to implement the current ₦32,000 minimum wage, pending the release of the table for the new salary rate from the National Salaries, Wages and Income Commission.
Fashe said, “Whatever the worker was getting as the present national minimum wage of N32,000 as it applies to Adamawa State, that same will be applied in terms of percentages in implementation of the new minimum wage.”
He added that Governor Fintiri accepted the ₦70,000 new minimum wage even before the release of the guide from the Salaries and Wages Commission because he is keen on workers’ welfare.
