Adamu, APC Chairman Speaks on Stepping Down in 2023

The All Progressives Congress (APC), National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, says he is not stepping down from his position if the ruling party wins the 2023 presidential election.

Adamu stated that the ruling party does not have a Muslim colouraton as being claimed in some quarters.

Raye24reporters, reports that the ruling APC is fielding a Muslim-Muslim ticket for the 2023 presidential election following the choice of the former Borno Governor, Kashim Shettima as the running mate to the party’s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.

This decision has stirred up reactions from religious groups, social-cultural organisations and concerned Nigerians.

In a interview with Arise News on Sunday, Adamu said the decision to step down from office will be taken after the 2023 elections so as to prevent the party from having a Muslim presidency and a Muslim chairman.

“I do not count my chickens before they are hatched. Wait for 2023, wait for the outcome of the election and you will see the fair person in me and our party,” he said.

The former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, reacting to a claim, said that 192 APC lawmakers are set to defect from the party, “For what reason? As the National Chairman of our great party, it is not in my place to lead by speculation.

”I’m aware Babachir has made known his dislike for the Muslim-Muslim ticket. But I’m not aware that 192 lawmakers are leaving the APC for whichever party.”
