Again, 13 feared dead an another canoe capsize in Jigawa

Thirteen people have died in another canoe mishap in the Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

The local Government Chairman Hon. Shehu Sule Udi, who confirmed the incident to newsmen, said the incident occurred Sunday evening when the passengers boarded a canoe from Dabi village to Sayango to console a family over the death of a relative.

According to Udi, seven victims out of the thirteen victims, were found while the remaining six are are yet to be found.

Police spokesman DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam confirmed the incident to our correspondent, said the search and rescue mission was launched with the assistance of local divers and seven bodies were recovered while the remaining six are still on search .

In his words: “Two out of the seven recovered victims were confirmed dead by medical expects and the five are in critical condition and still receiving medical attention while the remaining six still missing”

According to him, preliminary investigation revealed that the canoe hit an object and broke down, as a result of that all the passenger drowned in the river.

Police spokesman said the effort to search for the remaining six corpses is still on going.
