Government Secondary School (GSS) Garki, Abuja Class of ‘94, has enjoined young Nigerians to embrace patriotism, contentment, and commitment to help build a stronger nation.
Speaking at their 30 years reunion, the Alumni led by its President Mr. Festus Udoebor, emphasized the importance of valuing what one has as the foundation for a patriotic life.
“Patriotism starts with being content with what you have,” he stated, explaining that contentment inspires a positive outlook and a desire to contribute rather than harbor desperation.
Udoebor urged young Nigerians to resist the allure of moving abroad, encouraging them to focus on Nigeria’s untapped potential.
He acknowledged challenges posed by self-serving individuals but stressed that commitment to nation-building is crucial to unlocking Nigeria’s growth.
“By focusing on determination, commitment, and hard work, we can boost tourism and present a new face of Nigeria to the world,” he added.
The Chairman of the Planning Committee, Dr. Peter Olumuji, echoed Udoebor’s sentiments, highlighting patriotism and positive influence for youth.
Through stories of personal struggles and successes, alumni aimed to inspire students to give back to their communities.
“We’re here to build tomorrow’s leaders,” Olumuji said, encouraging students to reject vices such as cultism and internet fraud, and instead become the bridge between generations, promoting integrity and commitment in Nigeria.
Acknowledging economic challenges facing young Nigerians, Olumuji expressed optimism in government efforts to create more opportunities, particularly noting Federal Capital Territory (FCT) initiatives addressing crime and boosting youth employment.
The event concluded with alumni expressing renewed hope for Nigeria’s future, delivering a clear message to students: believe in Nigeria, build a positive future, and become the leaders who will realize the country’s potential.
