The Peoples Democratic Party, presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, on Friday, noted that the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu remains his friend.
Atiku stated this despite him contesting against the former governor of Lagos State in the 2023 presidential election.
The former vice president said this during an interview on Arise TV on Friday morning.
The PDP presidential candidate, when asked about his relationship with Tinubu, noted that they remain friends despite their political differences.
Atiku said, “I’m still a friend of theirs and being friends with him doesn’t mean we can’t have our political differences.”
This is coming after Atiku claimed that his relationship with Tinubu took a turn for the worse in 2007 after the APC national leader demanded he fields a Muslim-Muslim ticket in that year’s presidential election.
Atiku added that he became politically estranged from Tinubu after he presented Ben Obi, a Christian from southern Nigeria, as his vice-presidential candidate in the 2007 election.
He said: “He (Tinubu) insisted on running with me and I didn’t believe it was right to have a Muslim-Muslim ticket.”
