Disappointed Nigerian football fans on Tuesday did a collateral damage to the newly reconstructed Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja after the Super Eagles lost a vital world cup qualifier to the Black Stars of Ghana with 1-1 goals aggregate.
The first leg in Accra ended goalless.
Ghana scored first through Stand in captain, Pateh in a mesmerising goal mouth melee at 10 minutes before Ekong equalised through penalty kick.
Immediately the final whistle was blown, fans invaded the pitch destroying everything in sight including the reserved benches; goal posts, bill boards and the corner flags.
Players of both sides were rushed into the dressing rooms for safety.
Security agents threw gas canisters which looked ineffective.
Earlier some Nigeria Football Federation officials, stadium officials and security agents were among the injured as there was a stampede.
The 60,000 capacity were definitely over packed as government agencies and some individuals offered free tickets to fans.
However, the football governing body FIFA may despite the painful loss sanction Nigeria for the disorderliness.
