The ruling All Progressives Congress APC subcommittees have been dissolved.
In a statement on Thursday, Gov Mai Mala Buni, Chairman of the Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Commitee CECPC, said that the APC is crisis- free.
The disbanded subcommittees were set up by the Governor of Niger State, Sani Bello while taking over the affairs of the party in acting capacity two weeks ago with the names of Buni and Secretary, Senator John Akpanudodehe missing in the list.
On Wednesday, the Buni- led CECPC cancelled the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting fixed for today ( Thursday) by the Bello -led team.
The dissolution of the subcommittees and cancellation of the NEC meeting are in accordance to the rule of law as contained in the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC letter dated 9th March, 2022.
INEC while reacting to an invitation by the Bello – led CECPC to attend its meeting had said that the party erred in effecting a change of leadership without due consideration to the 21 days notice given as required by law.
Leader of the party, President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday asked members of the party to recognize the Buni – led team in view of the inability to effect new leadership” in a way that is inclusive, legal and respectful of the time limit set and required for giving INEC sufficient notice for the time and venue of its Convention”.
The president said that in the face of glaring multiple court cases in various courts across the country and the risk of invalidation not adhering to the rule might cause, there was the need to return the CECPC to status quo.
