The Governor of Jigawa state, Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, said the former governors of the state have handled the farmers and herders crisis in the state
According to the governor, Jigawa state is the most peaceful region in North-west, which shared her border with Katsina, one of the state plaque by banditry.
He explained further that in the North-west region, many people have being killed by armed herders in Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna state and Zamfara. Officials said between 2011 to 2019 the bandits had collected over N3 billion as ransoms from families of abducted persons in the state.
Also, over 4,983 women had been made widows, and about 25,050 children became orphans and 190,340 persons displaced by bandits around that period.
Governor Badaru, also said the atrocities committed by the armed herders could have been handled like it was done in Jigawa State by his predecessors former governors Saminu Turaki and Sule Lamido the situation could not be as it is today.
He stated this at Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council’s (PEBEC) ‘Business Made Easy, a situation tour held in Jigawa State, yesterday.
PEBEC, is continuing its tour of Nigeria’s six geo-political zones to engage with business owners in each state.
At the tour in northwest region, hosted in Jigawa, the governor said during the administration of former Jigawa state governor saminu Turaki’s, he was allowed the Fulani to use their cattle routes and to some extent forest reserves and the farmers herders clash are being discussed and resolved amicably, it does not allow to go deep into hatred.
“He explained that When Sule Lamido came in to power, he continued with the initiative, he started building water provision in the grazing reserves and continue to build nomadic schools for the nomad and when i came in, I continued with provision of water, demarcation of the cattle routes, Badaru has said.
