Breaking: Nnamdi Kanu Addresses Justice Nyako in Court Over Trial

Nnamdi Kanu, embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), have asked that Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court recuse herself from his ongoing trial, citing a loss of confidence in the court’s impartiality.

Kanu expressed his concerns on ways Justice Nyako is handling his case, alleging she had failed to adhere to orders issued by the Supreme Court, during the hearing session.

The Biafran agitator, made his request directly in the courtroom, emphasizing his dissatisfaction with the judicial proceedings.

In response, Justice Nyako acknowledged Kanu’s request, stating she would be happy to step down from the case.

She indicated that she would forward the case file to the Chief Judge for reassignment and any further necessary actions.

The situation escalated when Kanu, defying his counsel Alloy Ejimakor’s attempt to intervene, stood from the dock to address Justice Nyako directly.

He referenced a Supreme Court ruling that questioned the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court concerning the alleged broadcast that forms the basis of his charges.

Kanu pointed out sections of the Supreme Court’s judgment that highlighted perceived bias against Justice Nyako, further justifying his request for her recusal.

Kanu has been embroiled in legal troubles since his re-arrest in Kenya in 2021, following his earlier flight from bail conditions set by the court.

He currently faces terrorism charges but has pleaded not guilty. Despite his pleas, Justice Nyako has denied him bail, citing his previous failure to comply with bail conditions.

As it stands, Kanu remains in the custody of the Department of State Services, awaiting further developments in his case.
