Following allegations of sharp practices in the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN and Allied entities, Jim Obazee, the Special Investigator appointed by President Bola Tinubu and his support team led by DCP Eloho Okpoziakpo are set to probe officials of the CBN and NIRSAL.
A source told this publication that ” Massive, Mind-blowing theft amounting to about N400trillion was stolen.
According to the source ‘I never knew such amount of money existed in this country.
“This country is truly blessed if such amount of money existed to be stolen. And this is just one are” he said.
Raye24reporters gathered that already, staff of the CBN, NIRSAL , Anchor Borrowers Programme ( ABP) and others who have reasons to be investigated are already in panic and dark moods.
It was alleged that a former Managing Director of NIRSAL fed his dogs monthly with N600,000 in a country where resources abound but poverty rises to unprecedented monumental heights.
In June, President Tinubu suspended the Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele and ensured his replacement in an effort to check corruption, strengthen the weak country’s monetary policy and stop the free fall of the naira.
But the situation got worse . CBN ‘s introduction of foreign exchange windows which allows market forces to determine exchange rates did not also solve the problem as the local currency plummets towards N1000/$1 at the Black Market .
Tinubu in seeking to unearth alleged corrupt practices in the CBN and other financial institutions under the Federal Government, appointed a special investigator, Jim Obazee.
Obazee, on his part, requested for a support team from the Inspector General of Police, IGP , Kayode Egbetokun, who on September 6 deployed a crack team led by DCP Eloho Okpoziakpo,an expert in financial crime matters.
The Jim Obazee ‘s team is also expected to look into allegations of fraud in the ABP were billions meant to empower farmers were stashed in fixed deposits accounts by close associates of Emefiele.
Emefiele and Mrs Ramalan Yaro, a bank staff member are also accused of conspiracy and procurement Fraud to the tune of N6.9billion
On Thursday, President Tinubu told a delegation of Rivers People that Nigeria had no reason to be poor in terms of the abundant natural resources and assured that the narrative will change under his leadership.
