The ChIef of Defence Staff (CDS) General Christopher Gwabin Musa has received the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) at the Defence Headquarters Abuja.
The leadership of CAN was led to Defence Headquarters by it’s President His Eminence, Most Reverend Daniel Okoh. According to him, the visit was to reciprocate a similar gesture by the CDS to the Association’s Headquarters a few months ago. According to him, the CDS visit has yielded many fruitful results.
He added that the CDS gesture has given CAN a further sense of belonging and created more understanding towards combating the menace of insecurity. Dr. Okoh also said the CDS visit has helped to bridge the gap existing amongst the Christian Communities.
The CAN President added that “we need peace, without peace we can not pursue any developmental projects and we need peace to move forward”. while assuring the CDS that the Church has seen significant progress in the fight against criminality in the country under his watch as CDS. This was contained in a statement signed by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director, Defence Information.
In his response, General Christopher Musa maintained that prayers have been the spiritual backing behind the successes of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN).
He therefore appealled to CAN not to relent on its prayers to the nation and AFN in particular. The CDS further called for righteous deeds and action among Nigerians to help overcome the security challenges faced by our nation.
The CDS added that the mandate of the AFN is to protect all Nigerians inrespective of any religious belief. He finally assured the association of his commitment to continue meaningful interactions to bring lasting peace to Nigeria.
