Chief of Naval Staff Receives Trophies From The Victorious CNS Spikers Volleyball Club

    The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Spikers Volleyball Club has on Tuesday, 28th November, 2023, presented trophies to the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla.

    The trophies were received on behalf of the Chief of Naval Staff by the Chief Administration (Navy), Rear Admiral Kenneth Ezete.

    CNS Spikers Volleyball team emerged the 1st position (Male Category) in the National Division I league 2023 and 1st Position National Volleyball Premier league for female category in the just concluded National Volleyball Premier league 2023.

    While receiving the trophies, the Chief of Naval Staff, advised the team to develop themselves beyond the physical aspect of sports by way of education or skill acquisition.

    He urged them to consider getting education as well as acquisition of relevant skills so that they can have something to fall back on after their retirement.

    Recounting the achievements of the team so far, Chairman Nigerian Navy Volleyball Association and Chairman, CNS Spikers Volleyball Club, Commander MA Muye noted as he presented the trophies that the team gained promotion to the National Volleyball Premier league for female and National Division I for male respectively in 2023 and after the male team topped both 1st & 2nd Phases of the National Division 1 league that was played in Owerri, Imo State in June 23 and in Kaduna in Oct 23.

    He also added that the female team also topped the 1st and 2nd phase of the premier league played in Abuja in July 23 and Nov 25, and have been crowned championships of the national volleyball premier league 2023.

    He said the male team was not beaten in all the matches played and were crowned champions at Kaduna tournament on October 23, 2023.

    Consequent upon this feat, the team has gained promotion to play in the Premier league in 2024. He further noted that the male team won 5 individual awards, including the MVP, while the female won 3 Individual awards, including the MVP”.

    His words: ” It was observed that some of our players are ageing and some may suffer physical injuries and would require replacement from time to time”.

    ” It is pertinent to mention that some young and talented players have been constantly identified and lured into the NN to beef up the team.

    ” Some of the players seated here today, passed out from training school either last year or this year while some are presently undergoing training at NNBTS.

    He also said “It is therefore suggested that special consideration could be given to such players who are qualified to further beef up and strengthen the team especially now that both teams will be flying the NN Flag in the National Volleyball Premier League. Additionally, the NN could consider occasional special recruitment for sportsmen and women in various sporting events as done in other sister Services to enable us compete favourably with other teams.” he said

    In the process, he requested for a special recruitment for Sportsmen/Women, motivation of Sportsmen/Women in NN, training camps, and facilities.

    The CNS assured them that their their request will be considered with regards to special recruitment of sportsmen and women into the team.

    He congratulated the CNS Spikers Male and Female teams who were again nominated based on excellent performances to represent Nigeria at the African Club Team

    He pledged to always motivate sportsmen and women and to construct a sports camp with an indoor and other recreational facilities in Abuja.

    He promised to provide vehicle for movement to match venues after the Chairman of the team requested for a dedicated Coaster Bus to ease the movement of the team just like the same privilege being enjoyed by COAS volleyball team.

    The Chief of the Naval Staff Spikers Volleyball Club came into existence in 2021 following the approval from NHQ for the Team to take part in the Nigeria Volleyball League in order to restore NN’s lost glory in sports which has suffered over the years due to series of inactivities.
