A Federal High Court in Gusau, Zamfara State, has rejected a motion seeking to stop the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from postponing its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, October 24, 2024.
Imam Auwal, claiming to be a PDP member, filed the motion against the PDP and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Justice Salim Ibrahim declined four of the five reliefs sought.
The court refused to restrain the PDP from postponing the NEC meeting or recognizing the suspended National Vice Chairman (South East Zone), Mr. Ali Odefa. However, it granted substituted service of court documents on the defendants.
The plaintiff sought to prevent the PDP from holding any other NEC meeting except the scheduled one. The court also declined to stop INEC from receiving correspondence from the PDP unless a substantive National Chairman is appointed.
The case was adjourned to October 25, with an order to notify all parties. The PDP’s NEC meeting will proceed as scheduled, despite the court’s decision.
