The Nigerian Navy has maintained its aggressive campaign against crude oil theft in the Niger Delta region, building on the gains of Operation DELTA SANITY launched in January 2024 by the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla.
According to the Director of Information Navy, Commodore A Adams -Aliu, the Nigerian Navy achieved significant successes in August 2024, including; the destruction of illegal refinery sites, metal drums, and pipes in Bayelsa and Rivers states.
Others are recovery of large quantities of illegally refined automotive gas oil and seizure of stolen products, destruction of wooden boats and speedboats used for smuggling stolen products, and seizure of refined products and storage tanks
These efforts have contributed to a sustained 100% terminal factor for the Trans Niger and Trans ESCRAVOS Pipelines, resulting in a national crude oil production record of 1.658 million barrels per day as of August 14, 2024, according to the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).
The Nigerian Navy remains committed to eradicating crude oil theft and enhancing national crude oil production, in line with the President and Commander-in-Chief’s directive.
