The Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, has cautioned the Super Eagles of Nigeria as they gear up in their clash against the Libyan side in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
Senator Enoh emphasized the importance of not underestimating the Libyan team and urged the Super Eagles to strive for victory against the Mediterranean Knights.
In a statement conveyed by his spokesperson, Diana-Mary Nsan, on Thursday, October 10, Senator Enoh stressed that despite the Super Eagles’ promising start in the qualifiers, they should remain vigilant as the North African opponents are likely to aim for a draw in Nigeria.
He reminded the Nigerian team that securing a place in the 2025 AFCON tournament requires unwavering focus and determination, especially when facing a resilient opponent like Libya.
“Your solid start in the qualifiers has put you in a favourable position to secure a place in the 2025 AFCON tournament”, the minister said.
“Nonetheless, you must guard your place, as the Mediterranean Knights will aim to defy expectations, seeking at least a draw in Uyo. Never undermine your opponents.
“The nation will be rooting for you, make us proud and good luck.”
The first leg of the tie will take place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, at 5 p.m. on Friday. Four days later, the Nigerian team will be in Libya for the return leg.
