The outgoing President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, Mr Mustapha Isah, has challenged the Media to innovate and adopt new survival strategies to earn more money from different sources.
In a welcome speech at the opening of the National Biennial Convention in Owerri, Imo State, South East Nigeria, Mr Isah said the event is holding at a time the media in Nigeria is facing challenges as a result of cost of news print and broadcast equipment.
He explained that the two day event will also provide a platform for critical discussions on the future of the media in Nigeria.
Mr Isah also stressed the crucial role of the Media in holding elected officials accountable for their campaign promises and ensuring good governance.
Among the dignitaries that graced the occasion include Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, Dr. Tony Onyima, former Editor and former MD/CEO of The Sun Newspapers, who is the Chairman of the Convention, while the former Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency, Aremo Segun Osoba is the “father of the day.”
The theme of the convention’s is “Post-2023 Elections: Promoting Professionalism for Enhancement of Democracy and Good Governance.”
Meanwhile, the Mustapha led Exco has been dissolved to pave the way for election of New Executive and Standing Committee Members. Voting is in progress to elect the new leadership.
