The men Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja have arrested one Chima Anthony Nwigwe, leader of a reportedly notorious bank hacker.
Raye24reporters report that Nwigwe was apprehended along with three accomplices: Effiong Victor Emmanuel, Mohammed Bello Mahmud, the managing director of Downstone Ultimate Limited, and Daminan Ali.
They face allegations of conspiracy, unauthorized access to banking computer systems, and fraudulent withdrawals of depositors’ funds.
Dele Oyewale, the Head of Media and Publicity for the EFCC confirmed the arrest of the syndicate in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday.
The statement indicated that the suspects were taken into custody during a sting operation conducted by EFCC agents in the capital.
Their arrest was prompted by credible intelligence regarding their suspected activities in hacking and compromising the databases of commercial banks, which led to unauthorized transfers and withdrawals via various digital platforms, as reported by the anti-graft agency.
The suspects are expected to face charges in court once the investigation is completed.
