The Directorate of Road Traffic Services, DRTS in the Nigerian Federal Capital Territory, FCT, has condemned in its entirety the attitude of the motorist towards a public officer on duty.
This followed a viral video on social media involving Officers of the FCT Directorate of Road Traffic Services and motorist perceived to be a service personnel threatened the unarmed officers of the Directorate with a pistol when he was cautioned for parking on a wrong location to pick passengers.
This is a statement signed by the Assistant Director and Head public Relations division of the unit of the service, Mr Kalu Emetu and made available to journalists in Abuja Nigeria’s capital.
The service image maker stated that “the Directorate condemns in strong terms and will end at nothing to ensure that it does not repeat itself. The safety and well-being of the officers and Men of the Directorate and that of every Nigerian are very important to the organization will ensure that justice is served in this regard. We want to equally assure the public that the Directorate has taken steps to launch a thorough investigation into the matter. We are working closely with relevant law enforcement agencies to identify the individual involved in order to bring him to justice”.
Mr Emetu assured the personnel that the Directorate and indeed the Administration will take all necessary measures to protect its personnel and maintain a safe and secure environment for all residents.
He also hinted that the Directorate of Road Traffic Services maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of violence or threats directed at it’s officers.
Emetu said they strive to promote a culture of respect, cooperation, and understanding between their personnel and the public noting that incidents like this underscore the importance of continued efforts to enhance awareness, education, and mutual respect on the roads.
We would like to extend our gratitudes to members of the public who have shared information and expressed their concerns regarding this incident. However, we still encourage anyone with additional information or witnesses to feel free to come forward and assist in the investigation. Together, we can ensure that such behavior is not tolerated and that our roads remain safe for all users”, he added..
He further explained that the Services is committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, integrity and public service.
Emetu assured the general public that the service will continue to work tirelessly to provide efficient and effective traffic management services in the FCT while prioritizing the safety and well-being of all.
