The Federal Government has made a u-turn on the suspension it initially placed on Nigeria’s basketball teams from participating in international competitions.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Permanent Secretary
Ismaila Abubakar disclosed this at a news conference in Abuja today June 23.
He noted that the latest decision is based on a letter of appeal from the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), signed by Mister Musa Kida.
President Muhammadu Buhari had on May 12 approved the immediate withdrawal of Nigeria from all international basketball competitions for a period of two years. Sunday Dare, the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, disclosed this while briefing newsmen in Abuja.
The Minister hinged the decision on the unending crisis that has plagued and nearly crippled the development of basketball in Nigeria.
