Fulani herdsmen kills soldier whisk away rifle in Jigawa

Armed men suspected to herdsmen have reportedly attacked men of the Nigerian army on a mediating mission to resolve a conflict between farmers and herders men in Guri Local Government Area of Jigawa state.

Raye24reporters, reported that the soldier were found dead on Wednesday as a result of the serious injuries sustained from the attack.

According to residents of the area, the attack might likely be carried out by herders who were in conflict with farmers in the area.

However, our correspondent was reliably informed that after the attack on the soldier, the herdsmen also took away his rifles.

According to an eye witness report, the soldier, who is identified as Danlami Danjuma, with the rank of a sergeant was among the soldiers who responded to a distress call from Gagiya community where herders were said to have encroached into farmland.

However, When our correspondent contacted the local government chairman, Musa Muhammad over the incidents, he stated that authorities including the Fulani community leaders have condemned the attack and have ordered a manhunt on the suspects.

He further explained that the soldier died in the line of duty, they were there to prevent a fight between the farmers and herders. Unfortunately, he was shot three time with arrow and various degree of cut which lead to his death  

“it is reliably gathered that the herders are in desperate search of pasture following the devastating effects of flooding on the grazing areas and farmlands. 

“The soldiers who rushed to the scene to address tension after herders encroached into farmlands,” the council chairman stated.
