Yakubu Gowon, Nigeria Former Head of State, on Friday urge Nigerians to pray for the best leaders ahead of the 2023 general election.
Gowon while receiving officials of the Progressive Consolidation Group (PCG) at his residence said Nigerians and leaders must sustain peace, progress and national unity.
PCG in a statement released on Friday said the former head of state believes God will decide the outcome of the forthcoming general election.
He called on politicians and their followers to look beyond the struggle for positions, but clamour for peace, unity and the future of Nigeria.
Gowon said, “Sustain hope, believe in Nigeria and believe in the cause of unity and peace.”
PCG is a support group clamouring for the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo to contest in the 2023 presidential election under the All Progressives Congress
Despite calls the group for Osinbajo to contest in the forthcoming election, the Vice President is yet to officially declare his intention to contest.
There had been speculations that Osinbajo would be willing to take over from his principal, President Muhammadu Buhari when his tenure ends in 2023.
