A group of bandits reportedly invade a police outpost in Zamfara State on Wednesday, where they seized the mobile phones of officers on duty.
Raye24reporters, gathered that the terrorists stormed the outpost in Magami, a community in Gusau, the state’s capital, at about 3:40 PM yesterday, causing residents to flee their homes.
A local reporter who identified himself as Abdul Balarabe disclosed that several residents had fled the community due to incessant attacks in the area by terrorists.
According to him, the terrorists shot into the air after collecting the officers’ phones before returning to the bush.
“Bandits attacked Magami Divisional police station under Gusau LGA of Zamfara State, snatched phones and other valuables belonging to the police on duty, they also fired warning shots and escaped. The incident happened today around 3:40 pm,” Balarabe said in a post online.
Meanwhile, locals who pleaded to be anonymous, told Daily Trust that the bandits stormed the stations to free one of them who was detained there.
The suspect, however, had been reportedly transferred to the state police headquarters by the time the terrorists arrived at the station
“They collected the phones of all the officers on duty and that of one of the complainants they met there, but didn’t kill anybody,” a source said.
However, Police Public Relations Officer in Zamfara, SP Muhammed Shehu, who Daily Trust contacted, denied the report saying no phone was collected from any officer.
He, however, refused to comment further when probed.
