The people of Dekina/Bassa Federal Constituency have, over time, yearned for a representative who understands their plight and provides practical solutions to their plethora of challenges but have gotten disappointment as their lot. Pitiable!
Perhaps, the constituents have not been able to match their yearning with the profile of past Rep. Members. In the build up to the 2023 general elections, Usman Austin Okai is a candidate with a profile that indicates an end to these challenges.
Born on 1st August, 1985 into the family of Mr and Mrs Francis Yahaya Usman of Emewe Opada in Biraidu District of Dekina LGA of Kogi State, Usman Austin grew up with his grandfather, Alhaji Usman Adaji Abocho. By this, Austin has the wisdom of the elders that is needed in governing a multi-ethnic enclave like Dekina/Bassa Federal Constituency.
He had his early education at Roman Catholic Mission Primary School, Emewe Opada, 1990- 1995; Ofoji Community Secondary School Emewe Opada and Our Lady of School, Anyigba, 1995-2001. This indicates that Austin grew up within the Federal Constituency. Obviously, he understands the problems of the people and has solutions to them.
He obtained National Diploma in Accountancy at Federal Polytechnic, Idah; had his Industrial Attachment at the department of Operations of the defunct Intercontinental Bank PLC at Wuse, Abuja; He bagged his Higher National Diploma in Accountancy from the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa. This shows his love for education. He will relive this attribute if elected into the Federal House of Representatives in the 2023 general elections. Education will be part of his core mandate.
Austin has worked at Oceanic Bank, 2007-2008 and Bank PHB, 2008-2019. By this experience in the financial sector, the good people of Dekina/Bassa Federal Constituency are assured of accountability in the management of constituency projects across the constituency.
This young political juggernauts is a recipient of several awards among which are: Certificate of Appointment as a Senior Officer, Situation Room and Logistics; SDGs Pillar of Humanitarian Award for his exemplary performance in promoting and supporting UN’s Sustainable Development and for his dedication in lifting humanity by the UN Economic and Social Council (Special Advisory Council on Social Development Commission). With these Award, the privileged people of Dekina/Bassa Federal Constituency would be lucky to have a Representative who is connected with the all-powerful, global Organization, the United Nations. The gains from this link are limitless to the people.
At party level, Austin Okai has served as Member, Electoral Committee, PDP National Convention, 2014; Member, PDP Presidential Campaign Organization, 2015; Member, PDP, National Convention Media Committee and Spokesperson, Atiku/Obi Campaign Organisation Kogi State, 2019; Spokesperson for the PDP in the Kogi State gubernatorial election; Member, PDP National Convention Media Committee, 2021; Member, Technical Committee PDP E-media Registration 2021 and National Coordinator, PDP National Youths Frontier. This achievements place Austin Okai at the national level of the PDP. If elected, he will catapult his constituents at national politics of the party which would be a plus to the people.
As a unifier he is from a family that has both Christians and Muslims. This same harmony that exists in his family would be replicated across the constituency.
Austin has late Chief Gani Fawehinmi and Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka as his mentors. A man with this kind of mentors most be a result oriented fellow.
He is happily married to Mrs Fedoje Bridget with kids. If he can manage his home, he can manage people.
With this, Usman Austin Okai has proven to be the best candidate for Dekina/Bassa Federal House of Representatives in 2023.
