I was asked to step down for MKO Abiola in 1992 & i obeyed – Atiku

A presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has recalled some of the sacrifices he made in the past. During his recent meeting with PDP delegates in Bauchi State. The former Vice President shared the story of how he once stepped down for Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola (popularly known as MKO Abiola) and his running mate, Babagana Kingibe.

Atiku Abubakar was recently welcomed by an excited crowd at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Airport ahead of his meeting with PDP delegates in the state.

Addressing the party stakeholders in Bauchi State on AIT, Atiku said, “In 1992, during the build up to the party convention, I was among the three aspirants contesting for the office of the President alongside MKO Abiola and Babagana Kingibe. However, on the eve of the election, some party leaders called me to step down for Abiola, and I did. I appeal for your support at the upcoming party convention just as you supported me in 2018.”

The state chairman of the party revealed that he was mandated by the governor, Bala Mohammed (also a presidential aspirant), to receive Atiku Abubakar. Atiku was received by the state Deputy Governor, party leaders, and teeming supporters.
