IIP-SARS RECOVERS IMPOUNDED VEHICLE BY UNION BANK

    The Independent Investigation Panel on Human Rights Violations by the defunct SARS and other units of the Nigerian Police Force has recovered a vehicle belonging to one Hon. Ngozika Ihuoma confiscated by union bank in 2013.

    Counsel to the complainant Chibuzo Ezike was before the 11 man panel to inform the panelists on latest development concerning the seized vehicle. This was contained in a statement from Fatimah Agwai Mohammed, Deputy Director, Public Affairs.

    According to the counsel the sixth respondent (Union Bank) in the case of alleged intimidation and confiscation of properties, disobedience of court order, have complied with the order of the panel by releasing the vehicle in question.

    Meanwhile, Mr. Ezike presented before the panel a photocopy showing that the vehicle was actually released but in bad shape.

    Responding, the Chairman of the panel Justice Sulieman Galadima (rtd) who was represented by Dr. Garba Tetengi (SAN) commended Union bank for responding promptly and complying with the order of the panel.

    It will be recalled that Honorable Ngozika Ihuoma was before the panel sometime in 2021 praying the panel to make an order directing Union bank to release his confiscated car to the panel to enable him take possession of it.

    Furthermore, he had narrated how his vehicle was impounded by the bank and all attempts to recover it proved abortive. He had informed the panel that he was arrested and detained at Maitama Police Division, Abuja at the instance of the bank.

    It was gathered that part of the reason why the complainant was detained by the Police borders on alleged financial misappropriation.

    The matter was adjourned to 7th March, 2022 for definite defense.
