‘I’m Ready For War’ – Dele Farotimi Dares Afe Babalola (Video)

The embattled lawyer and human rights activist, Dele Farotimi, has disclosed on Sunday, that he is ready to face his ongoing trial.

Farotimi noted that his battle axes have been sharpened, and his guns primed, ready for war.

Posting on X, the activist lawyer said he’s strong enough to confront principalities and powers.

“I am strong enough to rumble unruffled against principalities and powers, but I am human enough to retain the capacity to shed tears of joy in appreciation of the grace of God, expressed in the concerted efforts of fellow victims.

“My battle axes are newly sharpened, my guns primed, I am ready to war.

“My resolve was NEVER tested, but I was waiting for next round of the fight to commence.

“I KNEW that the first round had been lost by those responsible for my imprisonment.”

A few weeks ago, a Chief Magistrate Court in Ado Ekiti had granted Farotimi N30 million bail.

The lawyer was arrested for allegedly defaming Afe Babalola, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, ABUAD.

Farotimi was subsequently freed after meeting his bail conditions.

Meanwhile, the human rights activist has expressed his appreciation to Nigerians for their collective support during his detention over allegations of defamation.

Farotimi was arrested on December 3 at his Lagos office by police officers from Ekiti Command and transported to Ekiti, where he faced charges stemming from allegations of defaming Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Afe Babalola, in his book Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System.

Dele Farotimi broke down in tears while appreciating Nigerians for being there for him while he was in prison

After being held in custody for over three weeks, Farotimi regained his freedom on December 24 upon meeting stringent bail conditions. These included a ₦30 million bond, two sureties (one a property owner), surrendering his passport, and agreeing not to grant media interviews post-release.

Announcing his release, former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore wrote, “I am pleased to report that Dele Farotimi is no longer being held at the prison yards in Ekiti State and is now returning home to Lagos.”

In a live session following his release, Farotimi reflected on the overwhelming support he received from Nigerians.

“We stop being humans because we became Nigerians. Nigerians overlooked my ethnicity, my religion, and spoke for me,” he said.

He further remarked, “Nigeria couldn’t happen to me because people spoke for me,” attributing his release to the solidarity and advocacy shown by citizens across diverse backgrounds.
