The suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, has said the insecurity in the country has worsened since his arrest and continued detention.
The former commander of the Intelligence and Response Team (IRT) says his incarceration had emboldened bandits, terrorists and kidnappers ravaging the country.
He recalled the attack on the Kaduna-Abuja train on March 28, the invasion and attack of the Kaduna airport, as well as rampant kidnap of innocent Nigerians on the Kaduna-Abuja highway.
In a document submitted through his lawyer, Nureini Jimoh, on Tuesday, Kyari prayed to the Federal High Court in Abuja to review his bail application initially rejected in order to help solve the security challenges.
It would be recalled that the court had in March ordered that Kyari be remanded at Kuje correctional centre pending the conclusion of his trial.
He, however, asked the court to release him on bail to help the police apprehend the terrorists and other criminals disturbing the peace of the country.
Kyari claimed that his continued detention has led to a criminal upsurge and other high-level insecurity in the country.
The document partly reads: “Upon the incarceration of the applicants, criminality in the nation has risen up. The Kaduna train attack, Kaduna-Abuja Road attack, as well as Kaduna airport attack, was a result of the incarceration of the applicants
“The entire plan to incarcerate the applicant led to the criminal upsurge and other high-level insecurity in the country. Since the incarceration of the applicants, the police have not recorded any level of success on the senseless attack(s) across the country.”
