ISWAP Buries Slain Commander, Installs Replacement

The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has buried Abubakar Mohammed, one of its commanders who was killed by the Joint task force operation in Chad some months ago.

Mohammed, who was buried around the Lake Chad basin, has been replaced and a new commander has been immediately installed, Raye24reporters understands.

According to Eons intelligence, Mohammed’s burial was attended by other ISWAP commanders including Amirul Jaesh, Amirul Fiya, Rija Amn and Hisba among others.

The slain commander was said to have been in charge of the waterways around the Lake Chad basin which covers towns such as Marte and Kukawa, among other towns bordering Cameroon such as Ngala and Monguno.

The senior commanders who attended the burial also used the moment to select the new person who will take over the position left vacant by the demise of Mohammed.

With the appointment of a new commander, there’s a possibility of increased attack and activities of ISWAP in the area as the new commander will want to justify his appointment.
