JIGAWA CIVIL DEFENSE RECORDS OVER 2000 CASES

During the year under review of the Nigerian Civil Defence Corp Command, disclosed that a total of two thousand one hundred and eleven and one cases were recorded and treated by the command in which out of that number six hundred and sixty nine are criminal cases while One Thousand Four Hundred and Forty Two (1,442) were civil cases . 

This was confirmed by the spokesman of the command Adamu shehu, shortly after celebrating the civil defence day in Dutse, the spokesman said the command had recorded the following;

The breakdown of the cases is as follows:

CRIMINAL  CASES:

  1. Theft, Burglary, Shoplifting, Larceny: 308
  2. Act of Vandalization: 16
  3. Illicit drugs usage/peddling: 37
  4. Thuggery, Assault:51
  5. Unnatural offences, Rape, Gross indecency: 31
  6. Forgery, Breach of Trust, Impersonation, Fraud: 168
  7. Armed robbery, Kidnapping: 4
  8. Homicide, Attempt to commit Suicide: 5
  9. Criminal intimidation, Public nuisance: 14
  10. Trespass, Vagabond: 22
  11. Others including Diversion of Fuel, Adulteration, etc: 13

Out of the total number of recorded criminal cases, Three Hundred and Ninety Eight (398) were prosecuted and convictions secured on One Hundred and Ten (110); One Hundred and Twenty Nine (129) are pending, undergoing further investigations at the Command. While a total of Thirty Two (32) cases were transferred to relevant agencies for further action. 

FOR CIVIL CASES:

  1. Breach of contract: 269
  2. Family/Domestic disputes: 386
  3. Land/Farm disputes: 167
  4. Tenancy: 83
  5. Farmers and Herders conflicts: 71
  6. Communal and Interpersonal disputes: 82
  7. Indebtedness: 319
  8. Others: 65

Out of the total number of Civil cases, One Thousand Two Hundred and Fifty Three (1,253) were resolved through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) by the Peace and Conflict Management Unit, One Hundred and Sixty One (161) are pending while a total of Twenty Eight (28) cases were referred to court. 

Aside the criminal and civil cases treated, the command engaged in series of Disaster management activities and rescue operations in the State in which Several lives and property were rescued. Inevitably, some deaths were recorded and property worth millions of Naira destroyed. The breakdown are as follows: 

  1. Road Traffic Accidents: 74 cases attended, while 41 deaths recorded. 
  2. Drowning: 4 lives lost 
  3. Fire outbreaks: 21 cases attended, while 7 lives were lost. 
  4. Epidemics: 15 lives lost through Cholera related diseases. 
  5. Thunderstorms, Windstorms, Flooding: 3 lives lost. 
    6: Bridge collapse: 21 people died at the spot while 7 people rescued. 

The command also participated actively in the area of Critical National Assets Protection, peaceful and successful conduct of elections both Local Government Elections and By-elections in the State and general maintenance of law and order. 

In appreciation, the Commandant thank the State Government, Media and the General public for the cooperation and support rendered to the NSCDC throughout its operations in the State.
