Following the position of Governor Samuel Ortom to pitch tent with Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State against Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Jemgbagh Development Association of Benue State has issued a stern warning against the Benue Governor.
The Association said that the philosophy which defines politics as a game of interest/number will definitely be a major factor in zone B come 2023 general election, stressing that Jemgbagh sons and daughters shall surely pay back.
The Jemgbagh Development Association specifically asked the governor to choose between his demand for the resignation of Ayu as National Chairman of the PDP and his senatorial ambition.
The association declared that even though it remained a socio-cultural and non-partisan organisation, it would however, not fold its arms and watch any of its sons or daughters unjustifiably attacked as being done by the governor.
Ortom had at a meeting last week with the leadership of the Association, declared that he would not succumb to blackmail over his pursuit for justice, saying that it is God that gives power.
But, in what looks like a direct response to Ortom’s position, the Jemgbagh Development Association, Abuja chapter, said that the governor has a choice between supporting Dr. Ayu and facing dire political consequences should he continue aligning with those seeking to force the PDP National Chairman to resign.
This was contained in a statement read by the President of the Abuja chapter of the association, Mr. Terver Felix Abor, who accused Ortom of pursuing a deliberate agenda to undermine the kinsmen of Jemgbagh, including the Minister of Special Duties, Dr. George Akume, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu and Senator Orker Jev.
In the words of Abor; “We are disheartened that the Governor who wants to be senator for Zone B of Benue State, comprising Jemgbagh and MINDA will involve himself as usual in destroying a Jamgbagh son, Ayu.
“The philosophy which defines politics as a game of interest/number will definitely be a major factor in Zone B come 2023 general election, which Jemgbagh sons and daughters shall surely pay back.
“What will become of Jemgbagh people today if Ayu, the PDP National Chairman who is also a prominent son, is pushed to resign from office? Ortom’s rightful answer to the question will give him a much more enabling experience among Jamgbagh people,” it said.
It noted that Ayu had throughout his political carrier demonstrated his love and commitment to democratic ideals as well as support for Nigerians across divides.
