A local government council chairman and several others have been arrested by soldiers on election duty in the Igalamela local government area of Kogi State.
According to SaharaReporters, the council chairman and others arrested were in possession of ammunition and lots of cash.
The soldiers impounded the cash running into millions of naira as well as a large cache of ammunition.
The arrest was made while the people of Kogi State were voting for the next governor of the state.
A video seen by Raye24reporters shows the suspects sitting on the floor near an army checkpoint.
In a viral video, both the council chairman and the people with him were seen expressing regrets and pleading for forgiveness but the soldiers did not oblige.
They reportedly confessed that the money was meant for distribution to voters at different polling units within the local government area and Idah area during the governorship election.
